Peace and reconciliation through sport &  art

My eldest daughter, and many other youngsters like her, were brought up in war; she never had the freedom to travel around her country exploring, absorbing, learning, and appreciating her diverse heritage like I did. Three generations of Sri Lankan children just like her, after the 30 year war against terrorism, are able to travel around to meet one another and form lasting friendships.
Our concept is simply to enable all our youngsters to meet one another on the playing field, playing cricket or football or run and catchers, or batta, to paint, to act, to sing, to dance to enjoy one another’s company and celebrate and understand each other’s differences.
In 2017, our School partners traveled to Poonakary and played a friendly cricket match and football match; this year the Poonkarians traveled to Colombo. It was not only about the cricket: it was about a visit to the Zoo, to the Vihara Maha Devi Park, the art work shop, the drama work shop… it was about the many chats, and spontaneous games, the dancing to the bailas that has become an annual feature looked forward to by all.
